Detroit is...okay. Don't get me wrong, the story told is overwhelmingly sad and they executed that perfectly. During most of the movie I found myself watery eyed at some of the horrible things these people had to go through that night. The reason that this movie is kind of "meh" to me is that I noticed occasions of bad editing, in some scenes I'd even be confused as to how we got to the next scene. I also found the dialogue was a bit clunky at times, and the last 10-20 minutes of this movie could have easily been cut, as it had very little (if anything) to do with the plot. Overall, this movie does tell a tragic true story well, but it isn't without its flaws.

The title and the trailer is misleading. I was expecting a movie that showed how the riots transformed the city. Instead it's a just a bunch of cheap scenes trying to get a reaction. But I grew up around Detroit I've seen way worse than anything this movie showed. (add crack). I don't get it am I supposed to feel bad or am I supposed to get off on watching black people get beat up and shot. I don't got time for this. Stop halfway through.

I will never watch this movie again. It was well shot, produced and acted in but it is a movie with no real satisfaction that comes at the end. I felt hopeless after it. Just sadness. I was left thinking what was the point. I will say that it provoked a conversation with my dad about how the riots came south east from Detroit to Plainfield, NJ and how he remembers seeing tanks during patrolling the streets as a kid. While the conversation was nice, I would say avoid this movie.
