The members of an expedition in search for the last faithful of Kito, the cannibal god, land on a small island in the Moluccas (East Indies) and are soon hunted by cannibals and zombies, these being created by a sinister Doctor O'Brien who is experimenting with corpses. It sparked outrage on 42nd Street, spawned a generation of gorehounds on VHS, and forever set an insane standard for Italian mad doctor/zombie/cannibal carnage worldwide. Fully restored for the first time ever.

If you have the stomach for ridiculous, over-the-top violence, campy acting, and a surprisingly good synth score attached to a film with precious little in the way of a plot but dripping with atmosphere, then this is the film for you. As with most Italian zombie movies, the focus is not the 'story' (there hardly is one), the focus is the atmosphere and the gore. And there's plenty of both in this one. Recommended for fans of the cannibal and zombie subgenres.
