It's hard for me to exactly call Lord Beerus a villain, which already puts him in the Top 3 most interesting characters in Dragonball Z. This is partly because he's got the dry, bored humor of a deity who's been around for eternity, and partly because for once he isn't dictated by rage or wanting to rule. His destructive habits are apathetic and fair to his own sense of being. Also, having the Pilaf Gang succeed in getting the Dragonballs (you'd think someone would continue to keep an eye on them) only to become their own foil and show up as children was a neat twist. This movie even went so far as to include humor that pokes fun at its own tropes ("I don't think I've ever heard him talk for this long. Are you following this, Vegeta?"). While it's enjoyable to watch all the way through, there weren't a lot of fight scenes and they felt too short. On the other hand, this could be because Dragonball Z fights have always contained a lot of filler to begin with. It's ok, because this is worth watching.

The point of Dragon Ball Z is to watch the main character grow through training and development the story lack that. It missed the mark in that regard as a staple of Dragon Ball Z. Too light hearted as well, felt like too much like a setup story (which it was). The CG has to go or I'm done with new anime.

Amazing! As expected of DB the fight scenes in this were stellar ,a lot of badass scenes in here as well. Beerus and Whis are fine additions to the DB world and the idea of gods of destruction is an interesting concept.
