I want my 1 hour and 30 minutes back. There was nothing impressive at all about this film. It's about a 7 day journey from Mars where humanity has settled due to some unexplained disaster on Earth that made it uninhabitable. Three people, 1 man and 2 women have been chosen to join the team to rehabilitate Earth. On the way the team members have hallucinations that threaten their sanity. Imagine a low budget version of Stephen King's "The Shining" with bad sets, lousy dialogue and poor acting taking place in space and you have some idea of what this mess is. Looking over the other review it seems the only people who like it are flagellating themselves with guilt over being human and "wrecking the Earth. When I saw the ratings on my Plex server gave this 2 stars I knew I wasn't going to see state of the art, but I was expecting more than this. Two thumbs down.

Watched on a friend's suggestion and wasn't disappointed. It's not flawless, but it was engaging and connected on an emotional level. I understand that the budget for this film was somewhere between 10 and 20 thousand., so a sci fi feature is an impressive feat in and of itself. However, the low budget did show through at times, mainly in the wardrobe and some of the technology. There was a hitch in the momentum near the end and it took a while to really pick up again. But it made up for it in the themes that it explored. Earth was made uninhabitable for an undisclosed amount of time, but starting 360 years ago, mankind went back to try to rebuild. We watch the journey of this year's candidates. There is a lot of work put in to exploring feelings of not belonging, the conflict between obligations towards family vs a greater good and trying to decide if going forward is a risk worth taking and they resonate. The acting was solid and the sequence was interesting. Will watch again.

Fantastic movie, would watch again. It reminds me of Neal Stephenson's Seveneves novel in that it's a well-thought out exploration of humanity in a hypothetical future in which the basic rules of life on earth as we know it have changed. Earthrise doesn't rely on special effects to carry the day, and that's a good thing. While this is a sci-fi film, underneath all that you'll find a compelling story about characters with real depth, all combining to create a though-provoking piece that's as entertaining as it is intellectually stimulating. The filmmakers did a terrific job of creating a living, breathing world and respecting the rules that they set up for the characters.
