À propos de ce film

An age-old war is reignited when a young farmhand unwittingly opens a gateway between our world and a fearsome race of giants. Unleashed on the Earth for the first time in centuries, the long-banished giants strive to reclaim the land they once lost, forcing the young man, Jack (Nicholas Hoult), into the battle of his life to stop them. Fighting for a kingdom, its people, and the love of a brave princess, he comes face to face with the unstoppable warriors he thought only existed in legend...and gets the chance to become a legend himself.

A fun immersive adventurous retelling of the classic fairy tale for the modern era. The cast is a very smart choice: From Nicholas Hoult as the brave generous 18 year old Jack, to Eleanor Tomlinson as the no-nonsense but friendly princess Isabelle, to Ewan McGregor as the strong and confident Elmont, to Bill Nighy as the ginat General Fallon. The entire production design, the CGI effects and visual effects are the very definition of magical effects for a magical fairy tale that has been done right. Wicke played by Ewen Bremner is a looney attendant of Lord Roderick played by Stanley Tucci that gets rid of useless characters that don't add anything to the film which makes him a likable supporting character. My big issue with this film is that when the camera zooms out (aiming towards the group of CGI giants) the movie loses focus on having big epic scale and no longer has a sense of being "giant", that would make these giants look just like a crowd of just regular sized human beings. The script writing is very clever is different ways: from the lines of dialogue in different elements, to the simplistic yet impressive plotlines. The relationship between Jack and Isabelle is exactly what you expect from a romantic relationship from an adventurous fairy tale, it's very good-natured, sweet, handled very well without being able to make Isabelle a typical lady that slaps a boy and move away, and has a little layer of such upbeat friendship to it. For Fans of fantasy adventures and people who remember the classic fairy tale of Jack and the Beanstalk, this earns a solid recommendation.

Watched this recently, and would never recommend this to anyone. The plot holes are too many to count. The acting is okay. The action was terrible, if you were expecting a large battle, all I'm going to say is "tug-a-war". The giants were not believable and the whole thing was bad. Looking at how many comments are 5 star with barely completed sentences describing their opinion, I hope my synopsis has swayed anyone from watching this.

Great movie, second we saw this one. An adventure story of a young man, seeking to make a better life for himself and earn respect from his uncle. Not gorey, although it is implied, never shown, good for ages 10 & up -- my opinion. The #1 thing that most people don't do is wait until after the credits roll and the story does continue for a brief time.
