Thomas Baxter
Rich white woman suffers adversity (albeit a brutal death of a loved one), has all the support in the world. Marries another rich dude. Honestly there are parts of this movie which really does serve to humanize such an completely unsympathetic protagonist, and the performances are exceptional. I just find myself at a loss as to the whole mythos of Jackie-O. Solid biopic, worth a looksee.
A Canadian Girl
There will never be another Camelot, but Jackie Kennedy made sure history would look back and remember the Kennedy Presidency and its' legacy in just this way. Which is certainly something considering exactly what happened to bring it to a blood spattered, devastating end. Jackie is powerful, dramatic, haunting, and tragic, yet somehow hope inspiring at the very end. It also reminds me of so many of the reasons I am so fascinated by the life of the former U.S first lady Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis. It mostly focuses on the assassination of JFK and how Jackie suddenly had to grapple with the horror of her first husband's murder, and the heartbreaking pain and sorrow of her loss with the eyes of thousands, even millions on Jackie and her children. In the end, she did what she knew she had to do to give the slain 35th President of the United States the proper funeral procession and burial, she held her head up, left the White House with John F Kennedy Jr. and Caroline and carried on. It was a devastating loss a few decades before my time that was to change and impact an entire nation, and the rest of the world. It is also a reason why I will always have a certain respect and even admiration for this historically famous and important human being. There might be better movies about Jackie and certainly others are entitled to their opinions. But for me, Jackie gets four stars.
Just Visiting
This is a one-woman show brilliantly held together by Natalie Portman in the title role of Jackie Kennedy, during the incredibly dramatic and poignant time when, as first lady, she travelled from Washington with her smiling husband president but very soon came back as the disconsolate widow of a former president.
