I first saw this back in the late 80's and it was the American version. I never laughed out so hard at a movie like this. This was my first intro to Jackie Chan and to find out that he actually did his own stunts even amazed me even more. Now, to actually have the original version, with the original language is so much better. Just like when they finally released Mad Max with the original Ausie voices, having the original dialect for this movie just makes it all the more better. The dubbing with Kung Fu/Martial Arts films was always atrocious, and Jackie Chan: Police Story was no different. To actually listen to it in the original language removes a lot of issues that occur with dubbed movies. The stunts and martial arts in this movie are excellent. It's amazing to me that Jackie Chan, and many of the actors in his films that also performed the stunts, are still alive. Some of the stunts they do in this movie makes you understand why Jackie can't get insurance (at least, so he says). Forget that there is no english voices. That makes this movie, and it's companion Police Story 2, all the more better.

this movie does feel dated but from my perspective of watching this movie for the first time in 2015, there's a style to this movie that quickly grew on me. Its interesting to see Chan's character change towards the end of this film, and the last 20 minuets of this movie make it absolutely worth it. There are only 3 definitive action scenes in this movie, but they all have such raw energy and speed to them. Like i said if you want to watch this movie, i reccomend it for the last 20 minuets alone.

The action sequences in this movie are amazing. The finale is still discussed with love and awe by aficionados of martial arts films. There are only three serious action sequences, though, and in between is an unbelievable story punctuated by Jackie's cornball slapstick. As a fan of Jackie Chan and martial arts films I think Police Story is worth watching, but non-fans might grow impatient with it.
