I'm not a fan of overly "feel good" movies, and the storyline definitely leans that way. The visuals, however, more than make up for it. The animation is so incredibly stunning, and I keep going back to watch the scenes because they just look so good. It's hard to believe that all of it is stop motion. I also love the song at the very end. Regina Spektor covering the Beatles is a better combination than I even thought it would be. All in all, this a fantastic film.

I am not sure why this film just didn't work for me. It just seemed to fall flat overall. Something about it just didn't flow... I think maybe the actress that plays monkey was too... I don't know...serious? I could sense the human behind the voice too much rather than simply enjoy the character. Maybe it's just because I looked forward to it for so long that the reality could never live up to my expectations...who knows.

This movie was really boring and the monkey was way too serious for a children's movie. Seriously Laika, I have been waiting for this movie to come out and it surprisingly disappointed me.
