Acerca de esta película

After more than a decade of sober political dramas and social-minded period pieces, the great Japanese director Masaki Kobayashi shifted gears dramatically for this rapturously stylized quartet of ghost stories. Featuring colorfully surreal sets and luminous cinematography, these haunting tales of demonic comeuppance and spiritual trials, adapted from writer Lafcadio Hearn’s collections of Japanese folklore, are existentially frightening and meticulously crafted. This version of Kwaidan is the original three-hour cut, never before released in the United States.

This is something very original to watch. It may not be the scariest movie ever, but I liked the feels it gave me while watching it. I felt like reading short stories rather than watching a film. It shows a great deal of drama and a lot of the Japanese culture, traditions and history. My favorite story was Hoichi The Earless.

Four tales that seem to be short stories. My favorites were The Black Hair & In a Cup of Tea. In a Cup of Tea seems incomplete, but what an ending! Loved it!

There is a poetic, surreal feel to these haunting tales. The cinematography is gorgeous and the sound design just as compelling.
