Larry Kelly (Mark Stevens), a song promoter, has a fortuitous saloon scuffle that leads him to Alfred Breitenbach (S.Z. Sakall), a destitute opera composer. In all the chaos, the two mix up papers, which gives Larry an excuse to visit Alfred's home. There, he becomes smitten with Doris (June Haver), Alfred's daughter. When Larry and Doris realize that Alfred's opera could be a hit with modernization, they receive his reluctant approval to write the music under the pseudonym Fred Fisher.
