WHAT HAVE THEY DONE TO MARY POPPINS , Can I just start with p l Travers the lovely lady who invented Mary Poppins she would be horrified to see this film. They mock her original story and the people that have worked hard with Walt Disney to create the original Mary Poppins. While watching this film I noticed at 1 point when she fell back into the bath she look like a scary witch going to drown children. I'd also like to know why they tried to replace chimney sweeps with lamp post cleaners ....

A really lovely and considered film. No its not quite a match to the original but Emily Blunts version of the titular Mary Poppins is possibly a closer match to the books by Travers than that of Julie Andrews. The songs are a bit forgetable but "The Place Where Lost Things Go" is beautiful and very moving. The film is great fun all the same and will keep the kids happy for a couple of hours.

It took awhile for me to watch this and I was right it was dreadful. I had to turn it off half way through. It could have been so much better if the story had been completely rethought not just changed names, not a laughing uncle but a cousin upside down, not chimney sweeps but gas light men. No Disney not a good movie.
