Acerca de esta película

Dani and Christian are a young American couple with a relationship on the brink of falling apart. But after a family tragedy keeps them together, a grieving Dani invites herself to join Christian and his friends on a trip to a once-in-a-lifetime midsummer festival in a remote Swedish village. What begins as a carefree summer holiday in a land of eternal sunlight takes a sinister turn when the insular villagers invite their guests to partake in festivities that render the pastoral paradise increasingly unnerving and viscerally disturbing. From the visionary mind of Ari Aster comes a dread-soaked cinematic fairytale where a world of darkness unfolds in broad daylight. From writer/director Ari Aster and starring Florence Pugh, Jack Reynor, William Jackson Harper, and Will Poulter.

Disappointingly over rated and over long. I hoped against hope that this was not going to be a re-hash of The Wicker Man, but it really was, and without any of the vitality of the older film. Where Edward Woodward was fightin' the good fight, these flaky losers were in it for the ride and frankly, they got what was coming to them. Some good moments - I loved the constantly unsettled baby that provided a sinister undertone to some sleepless nights - but this film really failed to deliver. Joins Suspira as another bad millennial rehash of a 70s classic.

I like slow burning tension films with gradual reveals and great characterisation where you empathise with the protagonists. I also like fast paced stylish horror where no one really cares about the characters because they are just disposable canvasses for the stylish horror elements. Unfortunately, this film is the slow burning type, but without the characters to pull it off. None of the main characters are likeable, there's no empathy, they feel disposable. And they take too long to dispose!

I love a horror movie that makes you squirm in your seat. Midsommar is just that type of film. It's not like your typical Hollywood fright-flick because it works by a creepy, stealthy manner, working up the levels of wasted and weird in an exceptionally unsettling way.
