Acerca de esta película

This story is about Truth, Beauty, Freedom... but above all... Love. Idealistic Christian (Ewan McGregor) is drawn into the dark, fantastical underworld of the Parisian nightclub, the Moulin Rouge. In this seedy but glamorous haven of sex, drugs and electricity, the poet-innocent finds himself plunged into a passionate but ultimately tragic love affair with the club's highest paid star and the city's most famous courtesan, Satin (Nicole Kidman). Directed by internationally renowned Australian filmmaker Baz Luhrmann, Moulin Rouge is a euphorically high-style vision of a glamorous 19th century underworld captured for contemporary audiences.

A timeless cinematic masterpiece! ☆☆☆☆☆ When this movie first came out, I judged a book by its cover, so to speak. I didn't even give it a chance. At around the same time, I moved to a larger city, where I made so many more friends that exposed me to so many new experiences; one of those being this movie. Now every time I watch this, it instantly takes me back to that moment in my life when my world became so much bigger. Now, even though I have a physical copy of this movie, I went and bought a digital copy as well. This is a film that everyone should own in their digital libraries. It's a comfort knowing that it's in mine.

I saw this movie for the first time when I was 7, didn't understand the plot at the time, but it ingrained a love of music in me that I still have today. Watching this movie 15 years later and it still hasn't lost the magic it held the first time. The cast is strong and the plot has so many different layers to it that I still notice something new every time I watch. One of my all time favorite movies.

I first saw "Moulin Rouge" when it first appeared theatrically during June 2001. As a romantic, I greatly enjoyed this lavish, stylish, experimental musical. The story and it's telling are ordinary here, nothing special. What's special about this film is it's artistry, attention to detail, style, bursts of romantic passion throughout and Nicole Kidman' s lead acting academy award nominated performance. In this experimental, quirky film, we need to accept hearing famous 20th century songs from the 1950's to 1990's being sung and performed in 1899 Paris. This is a fanciful imaginative recreation of the by gone era of the real life Moulin Rouge nightclub north of Paris, during it's glory years of the 1890's, during the Victorian Era. As for pacing and tone, this is a film which begins fast and funny, then gradually slows down, becoming serious and dramatic. This is a quirky, unusual film, which divides critics and audiences. I forgave it's occassional silliness and excess and greatly enjoyed the film for it's artistry, high style, energy, bursts of passion and romance, and finally, Nicole Kidman' s impressive acting performance, which becomes powerful during the film's 2nd half.
