Like most mediocre films I felt like there was potential for this to be done well but it failed in execution. I don't think this film could have pulled off being "scary" while retaining it's basic plot points but it could have been far creepier. The most this film managed was some genuine creepiness in the beginning and suspense through the middle and end. Unfortunately, I found the suspense ruined consistently due to ridiculous plot points and failure to develop any of the mystery. By the end it was a joke and a mix of boring bad movie cliches. They also decided to try some CGI for some "scary" moments approaching the end of the film and it was just awful. Would have been better to cut those parts. Basically, I can apprechaite when the movie pulled off some creepiness but it ended up not being relevant intrigue because the information was never used, explained or built upon by the events in the movie. It ended the most boring, cliche, catch all ending possible with a band-aide "plot twist" at the very end almost as if to try and rectify a lack of a proper ending. The twist wasn't clever and made no sense what so ever. The whole movie barely made any sense. I had a lot of bad things to say but some good things: The main actress did very well. The editing and atmosphere was dark and chaotic (several very good scenes when isolated) I liked the book it was cute.

What a big piece of crap. & to think that I went to bed late just to watch this. Do yourselves a favor and don't throw away your money watching this. I used to wonder why this movie was not on theaters; I just found the reason through over an hour & a half of excruciating pain. I think the photography is good overall, as well as the kid's performance (his character annoyed the crap out of me but it was the goal I believe). Other than that, there's nothing else to praise, with such an awful edition & plot.

A very unique way of showing what loneliness, frustration, loss, grief and in general, hardships of life can do to us, about our inner demons, and the consequences of not dealing with them the proper way and in return causing bigger and more terrifying problems that hurt us and those around us (Ex: Suicide because of Depression) and becoming our own personal Babadook. *Spoilers* The ending can be a bit confusing but the basement represents us suppressing those unhealthy feelings but still feeding them (Ex: Worms) just enough so they can still live and remind us not to let them overpower us again because in the end you really can't get rid of The Babadook but you can still continue on with your life.
