This movie was very slow moving and tended to bounce around more than I would have cared to keep up with. While the acting was done well, the storyline lacked very much to keep me interested. I'd like to assume this style of movie would appeal to someone else; it most certainly left me with little when I walked out after watching it in it entirety. I'm not opposed to character driven stories, and actually find them quite refreshing when done well. However, this wasn't done very well and I was unimpressed.

Not confusing to understand, but I wish there had been another layer to the story, how the character felt other than what he expressed only with his face.

I definitely don't think it is as bad as the critics say. Might be a bit choppy, but was overall cinematically pleasing. Great casting and soundtrack, which initially drew me in was maintained throughout the movie. Might help to understand by reading the book first though.
