The #1 New York Times bestseller by Kathryn Stockett comes to vivid life through the powerful performances of a phenomenal ensemble cast. Led by Emma Stone, Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer and Bryce Dallas Howard, The Help is an inspirational, courageous and empowering story about very different, extraordinary women in the 1960s South who build an unlikely friendship around a secret writing project - one that breaks society's rules and puts them all at risk. Filled with poignancy, humor and hope, The Help is a timeless, universal and triumphant story about the ability to create change.

I didn't like how she protrade the woman who made the pie to be. Like black women would be that nasty. I thought it was nasty and disgusting. My grandmother was a maid and she was upset at the movie as well, because that's something that she would never, never do, or anyone else she knew working as a maid or cook. I wish I could give it -5.

As a movie, it's good (and the music is gorgeous), but the book tied things together better. The book contained important details that the film lacked - for instance, in the book, there is a character who was a friend of Aibileen's son who'd been beaten up at work for using a white bathroom and was blinded as a result. And Skeeter's mom didn't throw Hilly out, Hilly saw how frail she was and left. And Miss Leefolt wasn't nearly as bubbly. There were others, too.

Fact of the matter is, racial discrimination is awful, and it's not often that we get to see and hear the details of how deeply it has affected the labor class of the south. I applaud this movie for examining that harsh reality, but it's that harshness that hurts the entertainment value of the film. I'll also mention that there are scenes that allude to subplots that must have been present in the book but that were skipped by the film - I thought that could have been handled better, but overall fantastic.
