Weird mix of intelligent, classy film-making and Eddie Murphy style "funny" overacting and wanna be zany. The humour is formulaic (something like a poor mans Wes Anderson style) and rarely fits well with the rest of this film. I'd still see it but lower your expectations and wait till it costs a lot less. It's like they wanted to make a serious unforgettable epic but just had one guy to write them some gags so that it wasn't too serious.

Given all the technical advise that NASA was supposed to have given for this film, it was a major disappointment to see so many key events in the film were scientifically impossible. It really destroyed what could have been a very good film. There was no reason to use these outlandish and unrealistic events as having humans on Mars is so filled with dangers that it would have been easy to have alternative disasters.

This movie was really good. I really appreciate movies like this. I'm so tired of movies with a whole heap of special effects and no story at all. I am a scientist and movie was also scientifically accurate, not to the full, but close enough. It was significantly more scientifically accurate than the movie Gravity (worst movie ever). Matt Damon's performance was also noteworthy. I wish Hollywood would invest in more movies like this instead of having non-stop action and no intelligent dialogue movies.
