In Marvel Studios' Thor: Ragnarok, Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok - the destruction of his home world and the end of Asgardian civilization at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. After 2 average movies, Thor finally hits the high notes and Taika Waititi delivers a truly wonderful film! Chris Hemsworth shines, Mark Ruffalo is great, Jeff Goldblum....is Jeff Goldblum, and he's amazing, Tom Hiddlestone is still incredible as Loki, and of course, Korg, who might be the best side character in the MCU. The only thing that stops me from giving it 5 stars is that sometimes the humour overshadows what should be a dramatic moment. Particularly the final battle and what happens to Asgard. Other than that, great movie!

Appreciating the fanfare effort and cameos, but this, just like most other USA sequels (direction doesn't count if financed by Hollywood) dedicate too much to fandom rather than plot. The originals made us think, the message was strong, we were in awe of the quality of narrative. Then it becomes Standard Hollywood fare to the Max the second time around. Great parts such as the scene leading to the grand master, the sweet kiwi voicing the stone..hulks breakdown pre cheesy wakeup.. but it's not enough. The one minute of Odin's input about Asgard was not enough and beyond passive - then queue rock music and another fight scene. Get back to basics, focus on the plot and build upwards. Fanfare is one thing, but how will you get new fans when catering only to the first? Odins message to his sons was so poignant, so important to the new generations in the first...now it's all just shazam, lights, camera, action. Not as bad as the blade runner sequel, but sad as I was expecting more substance. The kiwi stone voice over was brilliance though. Spirit in the sky song would have suited the ending more than 80s synthesisers, but can appreciate it had already been done.

I was glad Thor wasn't that "WHERE ART THOU, MY QUEEN OF VIRTUE THOU HANDEST ME A DIVINE, MY KINGDOM FOR A MJOLNIR" boring muthafukka. NOW he's a bad arse slap talkin' bro in outer space with his revolutionary mates korg and co. You're gonna LOVE this one.
