關於這部電影

The extraordinary true story of an unexpected friendship in the later years of Queen Victoria's (Academy Award® winner Judi Dench) remarkable rule. When Abdul Karim (Ali Fazal), a young clerk, travels from India to participate in the Queen's Golden Jubilee, he is surprised to find favor with the Queen herself. As the Queen questions the constrictions of her long-held position, the two forge an unlikely and devoted alliance with a loyalty to one another that her household and inner circle all attempt to destroy. As the friendship deepens, the Queen begins to see a changing world through new eyes and joyfully reclaims her humanity.

Fantastic film, lousy history. I very much appreciate the film, but while it does a good job of telling a rosy version of the story, it compresses time awkwardly and didn't get into the dichotomy of while she held this man in such esteem she continued to treat India as a backwater. There is room I think for a much larger telling of this story, but this film made for a good (sanitized) introduction to the story of their friendship.

I enjoy period pieces, but was let down by this movie. I'm a fan of Cranford, Emma, Wives & Daughters, and North & South, so I was familiar with many of the actors and actresses. I thought they did their typically good job here. The plot was enjoyable and the history interesting. The issue for me that the movie was needlessly crass. The crassness did not help move the plot along or help understand the characters better. Most of it was just crassness for the sake of being crass. That's my own take, yours may vary, but I left disappointed and wishing the great uplifting moments in the movie about the value of people over race and service over position, weren't so few when compared to the great amount of needless crass.

The Queen Victoria and Abdul is quiet educational and can apply to the indifferences in men, and women, that life is comaparitivally the same today. There are still those who remain the same. as far as the classes of all people who think they are the upper class of people and refuse to educate themsellves on tradition, lifestyle, religion and ones veiw of life itself.... Really! .... who on Earth can truthfully say they are the upmost, perfect race or class of people> ,,, Learning about ALL people is so important. NOT, which fork to use first when dining.. Considering religions, I was taught to learn about all religions. Yes, I could go on about the mistakes we all make and not be judgemental. I choose to learn and educate myself as much as possible. This is where Queen Victoria was punished and wronged by her own family. I love Queen Victoria and have learned through her. She was a great lady indeed. This movie shows us just how great she was.
