Whisky Galore is the charming and heart-warming tale of a community of Islanders on a remote Scottish Island during WW2 coming together to relieve a sinking ship of its amber cargo. Based on the true story of the cargo ship SS Politician running aground off the coast of Eriskay in 1941 and the ensuing battle between the Excise Men and the locals trying to salvage the lucrative cargo, “that of 50,000 cases of Whisky”. The shipwreck, and its cargo, was like manna from heaven to the Islanders, whose island was totally ‘dry’, without any type of alcohol, which some would say is part of the life blood of the Scottish Islands! Starring Gregor Fisher, Eddie Izzard, Sean Biggerstaff, James Cosmo, Ellie Kendrick, Kevin Guthrie and Naomi Battrick.

Calificaciones y opiniones

A faithful remake of the original with a few minor twists. Alas, it lacks the vibrancy of the original. Maybe some of the portrayals don't ham it up quite so well; I'm not sure. That said, it's not all bad. The music is beautifully put together, and the film does make strides to improve as it progresses towards the feelgood ending. Filmed a long way from Eriskay, the location of this true story; a place I actually had the honour of holding a bottle from that fated cargo.

A enjoyable film, but not as good as the original. Lacks the warmth and Gallic charm of the original.
