Inspired by true events, WINCHESTER is set on an isolated stretch of land outside of San Francisco where there sits the world’s most haunted house. Seven stories tall with hundreds of rooms, the house has been under construction for decades. But heiress Sarah Winchester (Oscar® winner* Helen Mirren) is not building for herself, for her niece (Sarah Snook), or for the troubled doctor (Jason Clarke) she has summoned. She is building it as an asylum for hundreds of vengeful ghosts.

Many years ago I was fortunate to visit the Winchester House. I never forgot it. And this is the house. Many of the filmed scenes were locations available to the tours; they actually exist and Helen Mirren plays, in my opinion, an absolutely perfect Sarah Winchester. As another plus, and a reason for the five stars, the writers create an hypothesis for the design of the house. One not so fully explored before. Well done. This said, the movie has its flaws. Unnecessary jump scenes, bad cuts, but still well worth the viewing time....and the house. Always, always, the house.

It wasn't what I expected I mean I don't hate it but I don't like it neither. I wanted to but I didn't. Only thing I enjoyed about it was that it's a new movie to watch, something I haven't yet watched. I feel like this story as movie should've and could've been made much better and scarier. Getting to visit it once with my husband at his hometown I had a much higher expectation for it. It wasn't any of that scary kind of ghost movie I was expecting but more of a pop scare. Pretty disappointed even if I don't know the whole story. Also some of the acting and scene was terrible.

Fun throwback horror movie, and especially enjoyable if you've had a chance to visit the Winchester mansion! Great mood setting piece, similar to the 1960s William Castle movies, if somewhat predictable and, like most horror movies these days, collapses at the end. Still, this is miles above most teen-centric horror movies these days, and it's nice to watch adults as protagonists for a change in this day and age.
