Through the course of the investigation, Madsen and Soto learn that Hauser has been awaiting the prisoners' return for nearly 50 years. Soto will witness his life's work -- the history of Alcatraz -- come to life. Madsen will see everything she thought she knew about her family's past shattered, all while fighting to keep the country safe from history's most dangerous criminals. Then, when a sniper begins targeting young victims, the team is forced to retrace the steps of the past in order to solve this modern day mystery on the special two-hour series premiere.

When child killer Kit Nelson (guest star MICHAEL EKLUND), a terrifying kidnapper who always returns his victims home -- after he's killed them -- reappears from the past, the team is in a race against time to catch the man before he kills again.

When a notorious bank robber (guest star ERIC JOHNSON) returns from the past and things go wrong in the present, Rebecca has to break him out of the hostage-filled bank before people can find out who he is.

For the first time, an Alcatraz guard reappears. Although he's a good man, Guy Hastings (guest star JIM PARRACK) is being asked to do bad things and will come face-to-face with an old acquaintance.

When our unlikely trio tracks former inmate Paxton Petty (guest star JAMES PIZZINATO), a sick landmine bomber who has returned only to place bombs throughout populated areas of San Francisco, methods of the past are applied to the present.

Madsen and Hauser hunt down Johnny McKee (guest star ADAM ROTHENBERG), a former Alcatraz inmate and vicious killer with a background in chemistry. It's a race against time before McKee horrifically poisons more innocent victims. Meanwhile, more details emerge about Madsen's grandfather.
