In the fourth season premiere, Robert and Neesee struggle to deal with a letter that Robert wrote to her four years ago, apologizing for the final argument that led to their divorce. They must decide how it will impact them now. Meanwhile, Bobby discovers a hair "down there," forcing Robert and Neesee to discuss puberty with him. And Dirk's life is turned upside down when his teenage daughter, Courtney (series star LAIVAN GREENE), arrives to live with him while her mother travels abroad.

After Neesee finds a new condominium to move into, Robert discovers that it's still under construction and won't be completed for a while. Robert's visiting sister, Carmen (recurring guest star TISHA CAMPBELL-MARTIN), asks to stay at the house but, knowing that his sister and Neesee don't get along, Robert realizes that one of them has to go. Meanwhile, when Robert and Neesee help Dirk get Courtney accepted into Bobby's school, Courtney causes a bit of trouble with the other students.

After Bobby calls 911 as a prank, Robert takes him to a police station to teach him a lesson. While there, Robert is surprised and horrified when he is suddenly arrested, in front of Bobby, for something that happened in his past. Back at school, Bobby is scared when a police officer arrives for Career Day, prompting Neesee and Robert to remind him that officers are almost always fair.

While hosting a charity bachelor auction, Neesee wins a date with an eligible, handsome and rich doctor--but the date doesn't go as well as she had hoped. Robert pays Neesee to bid on him so he can avoid going on a random date, but a mystery woman outbids her. And Bobby goes on a "date" with Dirk, since Bobby was the only person who bid on him.

When Robert comes to the aid of a stranger, Eva (CHRYSTEE PHARRIS - "Scrubs"), whose purse is being stolen, the two end up becoming friendly. But after Robert and Eva go on a series of dates, Dirk realizes that he knows her from a nightclub he frequents, and he confronts Robert. Meanwhile, Neesee encourages Bobby to make friends with an unpopular girl in his class.

As Robert and his sister, Carmen (recurring guest star TISHA CAMPBELL-MARTIN), prepare a 60th birthday celebration for their father, Earl (GLYNN TURMAN - "The Wire"), their gift unexpectedly results in the revelation that the two aren't really brother and sister. Meanwhile, Neesee helps Courtney get ready for the school dance, much to Dirk's dismay.

After Robert and his sister, Carmen (recurring guest star TISHA CAMPBELL-MARTIN), learn that the man who raised them isn't Robert's actual father, Dirk and Robert track down his biological dad, Luther (RICHARD LAWSON - "Dead Like Me")--and Robert discovers a shocking secret about him. Meanwhile, although Bobby tries to hide the fact that Courtney invited her boyfriend over to the house while Neesee was working, Neesee quickly discovers that the two are hiding something.

Robert remains stunned that his biological father, Luther, is gay. Although Robert tries to hide this fact from his family, Luther and his partner unexpectedly show up. Meanwhile, when Courtney shows her lack of interest in spending the holiday with Dirk, Neesee offers her some motherly guidance. Finally, the entire family sits down to have a Thanksgiving meal to remember, prepared by Neesee.

After Bobby behaves disrespectfully towards Dirk, Robert punishes Bobby by preventing him from attending a field trip. However, Neesee feels that Robert may have gone too far and secretly takes Bobby on the trip. When Robert finds out, the two agree to stand together in the future when disciplining Bobby. Meanwhile, Courtney brings home her new boyfriend, Deke, to meet Dirk.

After Bobby doesn't hide his disappointment in the gifts he receives on Christmas Eve, Robert and Neesee decide to donate the new toys to an orphanage. While waiting there, Bobby befriends a young boy and suddenly realizes how lucky he really is. Meanwhile, Dirk is excited to spend his first holiday with Courtney.

As Bobby prepares to sign up for his school's football league, Robert can't wait to pass his macho legacy on to his son. But to Robert's horror, Bobby chooses cheerleading instead. Despite Neesee, who urges him to let Bobby do whatever he wants, Robert tries to subtly change Bobby's mind. When Bobby joins the football team and proves to be a great player, Robert is ecstatic--but Bobby confesses that he only did it because he thought his father wouldn't like him anymore. Later, after Bobby happily goes back to cheerleading, Robert proudly defends him from some teasing bullies.

Neesee agrees to go on a date with Robert's co-worker Greg (KEVIN HART - "Scary Movie 4"). Although she thought the date went well and anticipated another outing, Neesee is shocked to find out that Greg didn't feel the same way. Meanwhile, Dirk helps Bobby practice for a spelling bee.

When Neesee's condominium is finally ready, she and Robert happily prepare to stop living together in Robert's house. But they don't expect Bobby to be so upset at having to move to his mother's place. The divorced parents must try to negotiate a solution that will help Bobby become accustomed to the new arrangement. Meanwhile, with Courtney on winter break from school, Dirk gives her a temporary job as his assistant, unprepared for the havoc a lovesick teenage girl can wreak on a workplace.

After cheating on an aptitude test, Bobby suddenly find himself in the gifted students' program. Robert and Neesee are thrilled with Bobby's supposed book smarts and encourage him to participate in the school's annual academic competition. Meanwhile, Neesee's new friend and neighbor, Michelle (recurring guest star TONI TRUCKS - "Veronica Mars"), sets Neesee up on a date with a guy who turns out to have a weird fetish.

Bobby tries to steal a pair of sneakers in order to fit in with the cool kids at school, but he is caught by the store manager. Meanwhile, Neesee is reluctant to help care for the newborn niece of her neighbor, Michelle (recurring guest star TONI TRUCKS), but she soon finds she enjoys being around an infant.

While Neesee looks forward to her and Robert's college reunion so she can meet a good man, Robert dreads the event because his rival, Fitz (BROOKLYN McLINN), who once tripped him and won a basketball game, will be there. Meanwhile, Robert discovers that he still has a crush on his older professor and is excited that she finds him attractive too--but an encounter with the sexually energetic woman leaves him unable to compete well against Fitz in a rematch. And, after talking to one of her longtime friends, Neesee realizes that she doesn't need a man to make her happy--even when it comes to having another child.

Realizing that she wants to have another baby, Neesee visits a fertility clinic to research potential sperm donors. After finding the one she prefers, she decides to meet the guy face to face. Meanwhile, during an evening out with Robert flirting with women, Dirk finds success with a woman named Jill (DANIELLE NICOLET). But tensions between Robert and Dirk escalate as Dirk repeatedly shows up late to work.

After an onscreen fight with Robert, Dirk is still upset and refuses to speak to him. Needing a friend, Robert turns to Ben (JAMES BLACK - "The Closer"), the man Neesee has been dating, and begins to spend more time with him. Neesee confronts Robert about stealing her man and encourages him to make up with Dirk. Before Robert can apologize, however, his boss makes a decision that affects Dirk's career.

Believing he has been wrongfully terminated, Dirk sues Robert and the show. Meanwhile, Neesee reveals to Ben (recurring guest star JAMES BLACK) that their meeting was not a coincidence but was orchestrated by her as a way to meet the man whose sperm she selected from a fertility clinic. Neesee and Ben must now decide whether or not to take their relationship to the next level.

Unable to cope with Courtney's mood swings ever since she broke up with her boyfriend, Dirk enlists Neesee's help. Courtney is inconsolable--until Neesee and Dirk come up with the perfect way for her to achieve closure. Meanwhile, Robert is attracted to the single mother of one of Bobby's playmates, but Bobby misunderstands the situation.

When Robert finds out that Neesee is planning to visit a sperm bank in order to become pregnant, he questions her reasoning for going through with the procedure. Michelle (recurring guest star TONI TRUCKS) accompanies Neesee to the sperm bank for support, and Neesee makes a decision that could affect the rest of her life.

Neesee invites Robert on an all-expenses-paid trip to attend her mother's second marriage ceremony in the Turks and Caicos Islands. When Robert and Neesee make an unexpected stop in a small town, they are mistaken for pop stars Beyoncé and Jay-Z. Later, Neesee and Robert make a decision about a second baby that could alter their relationship forever.
