About this app

Signal is a messaging app with privacy at its core. It is free and easy to use, with strong end-to-end encryption that keeps your communication completely private.

• Send texts, voice messages, photos, videos, stickers, GIFs, and files for free. Signal uses your phone’s data connection, so you avoid SMS and MMS fees.

• Call your friends with crystal-clear encrypted voice and video calls. Group calls supported for up to 40 people.

• Stay connected with group chats up to 1,000 people. Control who can post and manage group members with admin permission settings.

• Share image, text, and video Stories that disappear after 24 hours. Privacy settings keep you in charge of exactly who can see each Story.

• Signal is built for your privacy. We know nothing about you or who you’re talking to. Our open source Signal Protocol means that we can’t read your messages or listen to your calls. Neither can anyone else. No back doors, no data collection, no compromises.

• Signal is independent and not for profit; a different kind of tech from a different kind of organization. As a 501c3 nonprofit we are supported by your donations, not by advertisers or investors.

Signal is my MOST TRUSTED messaging application. I insist on its use with anyone I have a close relationship with. Open source, end to end encrypted, fully featured, reliable, and free. Rare indeed that one finds all of this in one package. Too bad I can't trust my devices because of Google and Microsoft, otherwise Signal would allow me to communicate in absolute confidence.

This is the most secure messaging app I know of, but it is also extremely robust and has become well rounded and full of useful features. I use it with people not necessarily interested in security at least because it allows larger media to be transferred, works on wifi, and lets the sender (by default) know if their message was sent or viewed.

So they fixed the message editing, but they messed up the camera. I now can't press and hold the shutter button to record a video. I don't think there is a video recording capability at all anymore. Unless they hid it somewhere? Also, taking a picture now is horrible. Why does the picture zoom in after I take it? People go forward, not backward, signal. One more star off from the three I had. Only 2 stars for you until you fix these issues.

What's new

★ Now you can react with any emoji during a Signal call. Smile even if your camera is off, share a heart if you love what you're hearing, or vote for sushi instead of pizza without saying a word. And you'll even see an animation of everyone's emojional outburst if enough people in the call react with the same emoji all at once.
★ We also added a shortcut to edit sent messages by double tapping on the message bubble. Double taps aren't just for likes, unless you really like editing typos.
