About this app

The Audubon Bird Guide is a free and complete field guide to over 800 species of North American birds, right in your pocket. Built for all experience levels, it will help you identify the birds around you, keep track of the birds you've seen, and get outside to find new birds near you.

With over 2 million downloads to date, it is one of the best and most trusted field guides for North American birds.

KEY FEATURES:

ALL-NEW: BIRD ID
It's now easier than ever to identify a bird you just saw. Enter all you were able to observe—what color was it? How big? What did its tail look like?—and Bird ID will narrow down a list of possible matches for your location and date in real time.

LEARN ABOUT THE BIRDS YOU LOVE
Our field guide features over 3,000 photos, over eight hours of audio clips of songs and calls, multi-season range maps, and in-depth text by leading North American bird expert Kenn Kaufman.

KEEP TRACK OF ALL THE BIRDS YOU SEE
With our completely redesigned Sightings feature, you can keep a record of every bird you encounter, whether you're hiking, sitting on the porch, or simply catching a glimpse of birds out the window. We'll even keep an updated life list for you.

EXPLORE THE BIRDS AROUND YOU
See where the birds are with nearby birding hotspots and real-time sightings from eBird.

SHARE PHOTOS OF THE BIRDS YOU'VE SEEN
Post your photos to the Photo Feed so other Audubon Bird Guide users can see.

The updated pictures are beautiful but not great for determining plumage characteristics. That is required! There is also a really annoying bug on iOS and Android. When in the explore tab, if you select a hotspot you will see a list of birds recently seen at the hotspot. If you select a bird and click on the picture to view additional pictures of the bird, pressing the back button on top takes you to the field guide list instead of back to the list of birds at the hotspot. Please fix this bug!!!!

Thanks for the feedback, Pete - we're always improving our bird photography and will take this suggestion to the team. We'll also look into updating that back button to make hotspot exploration easier.

This app is worse than the last version I had. I use this for education in schools, and I have to click about 5 different things every time I open it just to get to the dang list of birds and their sounds. The scroll function on the field guide is also terrible. The alphabet is on the side, and you would think you could click the letter you're wanting to scroll to to get there faster, but it doesn't work, so it takes a full 15 seconds for me to get from blue jay to vulture, which is such a pain. One more thing: sometimes the sound freezes up so I have the miraculous attention of 40 kindergartners expecting to hear a turkey gobble, but it suddenly doesn't work and I have to close the app and reopen it and press through 5 things, plus scroll back to the bird I want before I can get it to play. What a time waster!

I I'd really rather download this app to my laptop rather than my phone. Also there is no option to delete a device that I no longer have. When I had it installed on my phone I also had the issue of not being able to change locations for spotting birds. When saying where I see a bird, birdbath should be an option. Robins don't come to bird feeder but they do come to my birdbath. Not always in a tree or on the ground or flying.

Thank you for your review. Currently our app is only available on mobile. When you add a sighting of a bird you can make a note in the 'field notes' on where in your backyard you saw the bird: the birdbath, bird feeder, in a tree etc. Happy birding!
