I really like this. I am using the paid version, but even the free alternative is amazing because of how many language options there are and how refined they are. I don't think it is perfect. I would still personally prefer more direct explanations for why some words are spelled differently in some places or stuff like that, but of course Duolingo can't make a learning experience tailored to everybody, and considering it provides very good courses in pretty much any language for free, go for it!

I've used the app on a daily basis for almost 6 years. UntiI recently, I was happy with almost any aspect of it. But, the recent changes that are pushing a user to the pay version of the app are not consistent with the goal of really learning a language. The authors are pushing the users to unhealthy competition. Also, after the recent update, it is almost impossible to review the learned material without constantly being fed by advertisement. Disappointing!

The app functions just fine and is useful. I don't like a few of the exercises (mainly the radio call-in show and the "game" where you move the character), and the tones that the characters use is more distracting than helpful. The 1 star is because there are way too many ads. I get that the ads help fund, and I'm fine with those ads. The ones that are unnecessary are the self promo ads for the paid version and family version. Loud and long.
