Ratings and reviews

Busuu is a great app. Along with Duo Lingo I started using it daily during lockdown. There are two things about it that I don't like: it has more explicitly a teaching, and then a learning phase, with the teaching often text-heavy. Secondly, it often has a progress bar for each lesson, which is then replaced with another bar (and another?) upon completion of the first. I have about 5 minutes (10 max) to spare on this each day, and this is quite unpredictable. I do like the video presentations.

Best out of the 4 Japanese language apps that I've been using daily (Duolingo, Drops, Memrise). It actually explains stuff. Has a really annoying feature where it marks answers wrong if you spell it incorrectly, eg yokunakatta. I spelled it with one "t" and it was marked wrong for some reason even though it's identical in pronunciation. So you have to magically guess how they expect these romaji answers to be spelt.

Love the app and it's great for learning a new language such as Japanese, but the only problems that I find with this app is that you're bombarded with ten second unskippable ads at the end of a lesson or when you start a new lesson and the only way to remove the ads is if you pay premium but the premium version is a bit expensive to say the least, especially if you can't afford it. Overall, a great app to learn a new language 👍
