The app is good for checking birds on the go and also has decent, yet some what lacking, sound recordings. What made me give only three stars is that even though species are available in Finnish, the description texts are still not even though the book is available in Finnish. In addition, selling the 3rd edition as an in-app purchase feels wrong.

Having bought this today for £7.99 and opened it for the first time this evening I'm presented with a notification that there's a new version which I could buy for another £7.99. I have to wonder why in the middle of 2024 I have been sold an old version and am required to pay extra for the latest version. Buying it today I would expect to get the latest version. Not a good look at all Collins.

The app you purchased was the 2nd edition of Collins. The 3rd edition is available as an in-app purchase. We halved the price of the 2nd edition to reflect that there was additional optional content. You do not have to purchase the third edition content and you can hide the upsell in settings.

Legendary drawings well forged into an app, tolerably clunky. Freezing issue seems to have improved in latest version. With some species the song feature does not work ("trouble playing song" error). Also, the plates are different according to region (in the German version of the app, the Yellow-legged gull entry is far more detailed than in the English version). Search by name function does not work impeccably (when German is 1st and English 2nd language, "short-eared owl" does not appear)

What's new

We've fixed an issue with video purchases disappearing, and bilingual users can once again search for species by scientific name.
