ARRL Amateur Extra is a type of amateur radio license granted by the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) to individuals who have passed an examination demonstrating their knowledge of advanced radio theory, regulations, and operating practices.
The Amateur Extra license is the highest class of amateur radio license in the United States and provides the operator with the most privileges, including access to all amateur radio frequency bands and modes of operation. This license is intended for those who have a strong interest in the technical and experimental aspects of amateur radio and wish to pursue it as a serious hobby or as a career.
To qualify for the ARRL Amateur Extra license, an individual must first hold a General class or equivalent license, have a good understanding of advanced radio theory and practice, and pass an examination consisting of 50 multiple-choice questions covering topics such as advanced circuit theory, radio wave propagation, digital communications, satellite operation, and regulatory issues.
