Created by clinical and cultural experts, the Student Support app (formerly My SSP) helps students succeed by providing access to the TELUS Health’s Student Support Program (Student Support). Students can access the program anytime, from anywhere, to connect with multilingual clinicians. Our team is experienced in working with students from diverse backgrounds, who understand the challenges that students face.

I used the chat feature when I desperately needed support. The "professional" disconnected after 10 minutes (It hadn't been more than 30 seconds since they asked me a question which I was typing a response to when they left. I didn't close the app or anything.) There also seemed to be a language barrier (I only speak English).

The counselor whose name Tanya entered and used prepared hello chat then auto left the chat without saying anything when I replied. I didn't close chat or switch to a different app.

The app isn't all its cracked up to be. It is NOT meant for online counseling (as you are provided a 30 min 'counselling' session, that can be done via chat or phone, once every 24-hour period.) Moreover the online counselors receive different training than in-person ones -- which may explain why conversations feel scripted, impersonal, and cold. Overall, the purpose of the app is to set you up with an ongoing counselor, for whom you have book an appointment with.
