Okta Verify is a lightweight app that allows you to securely access your apps via 2-step verification, ensuring that you, and only you, can access your app accounts.

While you access your apps, you'll choose a 2-step verification method provided by Okta Verify to finish signing in. You can verify your identity using a push notification sent to your device (if enabled by your organization), a temporary 6-digit code, or biometrics (if enabled by your organization).

We do request permission to use your device camera so that you can scan a QR code when you enroll your device with Okta.

I imagine it would be quite good if it worked reliably. Unfortunately it. just. doesn't. So I have to sit there repeatedly trying alternative methods of verifying my identity instead of reading the journal article I need access to for work. And of course, if you change phone you have to reach out to your IT dept to get them to help you set it up again. I had multiple accounts so I got to make multiple phone calls the last time it happened. Really fun.

I have never come across a more jargon-filled, user-unfriendly and eventually ineffective and hugely time-wasting security system. I have downloaded the thingy countless times, used my google account on my computer screen and independently on my mobile and still cannot get the thing to give me a barcode. utterly frustrated for having blasted my personal information all over the place for no good reason.

Absolutely worst move from my university to mandate an app as the only option for verification now. There's numerous issues others have complained about the app. You need this to access your whole degree, especially if it doesn't work at times you need it most and yet my university decided to go on with this option? I don't want to have to download an authenticator app for everything. At least keep SMS as an option. It's already frustrating enough having to keep verifying again every few days.
