Ratings and reviews

Getting back to Rosetta Stone after a bit of a break. I find it complements other learning systems. The various challenges kept it interesting. My biggest negative is the need for interpretation of tiny, tiny images on my phone screen. I am sometimes guessing simply because I cannot correctly interpret the thumbnail-sized images, not the spoken words. Some images are far clearer than others. I have not leveled up to more advanced learning for this reason.

There are better for cheaper. I started at the beginner level to learn Russian. All the exercice does is give you a Russian words, with an image associated to it. Then, you repeat the words. But no where it tells you what you are saying. The learning approach is too dimbed down. Not enough different exercice (well i did not pass exercise #5 since I encountered a bug that wouldn't let me advance further). Anyway, I'm glad there is a 3days trial before buying a subscription at a steep price.

Really great program but difficult for beginners. It gives no explanation in English of what the words mean, nor does it explain why grammatical things are the way they are, you are expected to just pick it up. For example, it doesn't teach you explicitly how verbs are conjugated, or how to make the adjective agree with the verb whether it is masculine or feminin. Other than that, I love it and have been using Rosetta stone for years to learn 2 languages (Hindi and French).
