Note: root is NOT (I repeat NOT) required for majority of the functions. However, a few of the actions (like the Kill App and Mobile Data action on some devices) require root. This is because of Android security policies that developers cannot work around.

If you set it up to do so, Tasker can automatically backup your files to a specific folder on the device, SD card, USB key or even Google Drive! This is useful if you want to keep your files safe even if you lose your phone.

100 stars if I could give them. Things I use: Notebook shutdown,reboot, open smplayer auto resume video from Phone and watch. Phone links to internet radio stations, Automatic profile loading when at home, work, onthe move. Public transport notifications when existing home. And then some. Not easy though. High geek mentality preferred, coding XP handy. And some additional required components needed that are not free (in the range of 2, 3 euro each totalling 60, 70 euro for all). <3 <3 <3

Tasker is one of the most powerful apps for automating tasks on your smartphone, but it's far from the easiest to get to grips with. It takes some learning. Some examples of what it can do: it can start playing podcasts when your bluetooth headphones connects, it can send automatic whatsapp or sms messages, it can reply to a "where are you?" text with your GPS location, it can turn on your smart lights at sunset, it can pause background music playback when a particular app is open (and resume it afterwards), and so on and so on, automatically open an app at a certain time, or turn down volume at a particular time, it can read out texts and caller ID, flip down phone to set to DND, It can literally do anything you think I can't live without it. There are some sites where you can download and import profiles to automate tasks, so that you don't have to make it yourself (including Tasknet and Reddit). However, you need ROOT to enjoy it to the fullest.

This app might 'automate everything' but it involves downloading other add-ons (which are pretty vague) to enable it to work properly. I've downloaded some of the 'easy' automations and they don't work without extra bits of software. I now find that I get random 'No tasker profile selected' messages popping up on my phone so I'll uninstall it. I also get notifications warning of Tasker using too much battery. Make sure you use the 7 day trial. I didn't and have wasted my money.
