Repentance plays a fundamental role in shaping a believer's outlook on life, making it a means of strengthening one's faith. Without it, one is vulnerable to doubt and despair. This study examines the religious discourse's perspective on repentance and highlights the vital role it plays in the life of a believer. The basic pillars of repentance are described in the primary sources of Islam, the Qur'an and Sunnah, as well as its unique characteristics, especially in light of the most common interpretations of the word "repentance." This word is used to describe the process of remorse for sin and the constant striving to be freed from the sins and transgressions one commits against God. It is also often associated with the Judeo-Christian tradition, which shares some common beliefs with Islam, but differs fundamentally in others. Repentance represents both outward actions performed by people and inward actions known only to God.

Author:
Al-Hafiz Abu Bakr, Abdullah ibn Muhammad ibn Ubayd ibn Sufyan ibn Qays al-Baghdadi al-Qurashi, their client, a client of the Umayyads (208 AH - 281 AH), nicknamed Ibn Abi al-Dunya (his nickname overshadowed his name, to the point that he became known by it). Al-Hafiz Abu Bakr was born in Baghdad in the early third century AH in the year 208 AH. He was an Arab historian and educator who taught the Abbasid Caliph al-Mu'tadid and his son al-Muktafi.
Al-Hafiz Ibn Kathir - may God have mercy on him - said about him in Al-Bidayah wa al-Nihayah: “He is famous for his many beneficial, popular, and well-known works on spiritual matters and other matters. He was truthful, a memorizer, and a man of honor.”

- May Allah rectify our hearts.. A book as usual for the books of his time, containing narrations from the Companions, the Followers, and the Salaf, and hadiths, some of which are authentic and some of which are weak.. I listened to it through the spoken version.. O Allah, make us among those who repent and make us among those who purify themselves.
Ayman Qasimi

- O Allah, my good deeds are from You, and my bad deeds are from me, so be generous, O Allah, with what is from You over what is from me.. Wonderful writing. May Allah reward you with all good for every word with which you have opened my heart.
Ayat Al-Ghazawi

- A book that established my understanding of the station of repentance, and I believe it is the most important on this topic, especially since Ibn Abi Al-Dunya's writings are supported and from the Salaf. I may be concerned about the weakness of some of the narrations, but in the chapter on asceticism, he takes the matter of the narrations in particular lightly. Its purpose is to remind and awaken the conscience.
Yasir Hassan

- After being drowned in sins, long hopes, and a heart that is heedless and stained with bad deeds! The most urgent need of those who hope for God's forgiveness is a source of hope, hope and expectation in Him, the Forgiver of sins, the Compassionate to His servants, who is not incapable of forgiving mistakes. The most beneficial thing a person can resort to is strengthening his heart with knowledge that is free from error, its source being the lamp of prophethood, the deeds of the righteous predecessors, and the light of the Qur’an, the great meanings of His words, the Almighty and Majestic.
Asim Alzou'bi

- On the authority of Al-Hakam, he said: “If a servant’s sins increase, and he has no deeds to expiate them, God will afflict him with sorrow to expiate them.”
Fahmy Sheta
