About this app

Celestial navigation exploits the principle that every measurement taken with a sextant (a 'sight') converts to a line of position on a chart, the intersections of two or more such lines providing a position fix.

Use this offline compatible app to plan/enter sights and inspect the resulting lines of position.

Features -

* The 58 navigational stars of the Nautical Almanac.

* Realtime computed horizon in panoramic projection. Use for star/planet identification, sight preparation, true bearings etc.

* Sight reduction, ephemerides calculated internally

* Lines of position plotted on a pan/zoom grid centered on Assumed Position (intercept method)

* Import sights from companion app Angular Distance (uses camera as sextant)

* Rising/setting almanac

* Lunar distances conversion to Universal Time

Great program, great customer support! This app is great foe novice or pro. It's great for learning celestial as it shows the user where and in what pub the info is obtained. For the professional it provides an accurate and fast means of sight reduction. I recently used the app to. calibrate a bubble sextant. I was able to make a number of accurate shots in rapid succession using the sun's slope path. I was able to see how accurate the sights were and adjust accordingly. highly recommended!

Very useful app. A minor improvement for the next release would be to retain the date and time settings between entries - this would make it easier to obtain the results for a series of five or six star shots, all of which would typically have been taken within a few minutes of each other.

The first freeload section operates well. No glitches. This allows for quick easy planning of star sights. The premium section is excellent. I particularly like the graphics showing the derived position. It gives sufficient information to plot the intercepts on the chart.which could be very useful if a position line was added from another source. In addition the angular measuring tool works flawlessly with this app. Plus the makers were honest enough to explain it's draw backs.
