About this app

The application determines the order of the boules during your pétanque games with a simple capture.

Thanks to its computer vision algorithms, the jack and the balls are automatically detected. Measuring the distances has never been so fast! In the rare cases when the automatic recognition does not work, you can also measure the distance manually

How it works:
1 - Position your phone flat (with the help of the accelerometer) and aim at the jack with the target
2. - Trigger the shot
3. - The order of the balls is displayed. In case the jack or boules have not been recognised, you can select them manually.

Note: The application uses deep learning algorithms. When the recognition fails, you can choose to send the picture in order to provide data needed to teach the model. Thank you

Great app, would definately recommend. I used the app to help score in some ends of BOCCIA. Unlike in Boules/petanque, in Boccia the jack ball is the same size as the other balls but is always white (as opposed to red/blue of other balls). App didn't want to recognise the jack despite centring the screen on it. Simple enough to remove the apps choice of jack and select actual jack, but I just wonder if there is anyway to help the app autoselect the correct jack. Many thanks.

Thanks. The app is configured to recognize a jack smaller than the boules (diameter about 40%). I plan to add the possibility to select variants. I will have to retrain the models with pictures from those variants. Would you accept to send me pictures of the balls when you play (you can do it from the app). You can send me an email for more info.

Works really well and is fast and accurate especially if both teams are happy to go along with the app results. However, I recently bought MS coches that have a rough speckled surface and the app seems to have difficulty identifying the coche compared to smooth ones. The MS coaches is competition approved.

Thanks for your comment. The recognition model has been trained with thousands of pictures but it can miss edge cases. When recognition doesn't work, you should see a little bug icon in the top bar. Click on it to send the problematic picture and I will use it to train the next version of the model.

Thought it was ok at first. Then I tested the same "end" about 10 times and keep getting different rankings. Yes, I set the boules up to be very similar distances from the coche to stress the app, but you only need to measure when a game is close, right? So if it is inconsistent when it's close, then it's not much use in real life. I will test again in a real game on Saturday, but I am not hopeful 😐

Thank you for your feedback. There is now a perspective correction (for angle less than 10°) and the algorithm has been optimized to (much) better recognize the balls. You should give it another try.
