UPDATE: contacted Slack and they got it fixed within an hour. Awesome support. Thank you! Updated rating. Android phone no longer connects to Slack consistently. Works fine from desktop, but phone app will not show online status, notifications, etc without constantly reinstalling. After reinstall, works for a little while and then stops connecting again.

A group messenging app that trails behind other well-known messaging apps. I "need" to use this for work. Can't custom sort chatrooms or direct messages. Doesn't display notifications on new (or any) messages to users on mobile phone. Unimpressive contact list features, and clumsy group messaging apparatus.

Team or group communication is quick and cleanly organized when you use slack. The extended feature set is nice, such as reminders, but mostly I use this for the basics. Search has gotten pretty good and notifications have been mostly reliable in recent years, though there are still occasional hiccups when you are both in the app and have a browser tab open, even if one is backgrounded. Best of all, the app is pretty low impact on battery life and system performance.
