Friends got it and I said sure, I'll fork over a bit of money to play some codenames with them. So glad I did! This app is way more than just Codenames. It's got levels, trophies, special word collections, variant play modes, animations, puzzles and smooth match making. A really impressive implementation of an already great board game taken to a whole new level!

This app version of Codenames really exceeded my expectations. A lot of different game modes, achievements, and other things to keep it interesting. I kind of prefer it to playing live since I can really take my time on clues if I need to. You have up to 24 hours to make your move, so sometimes the games take a while. The scenario mode is neat: you try to come up with the best clue, they show it to a bunch of people and you see how well yours performed compared to other people's clues.

Great app with cool features but a few huge flaws. Mainly locking so many things behind consumables and XP gating. And then having a lot of XP and rewards tied to frustrating achievements that are overly punishing, especially when trolls can screw up nearly 15 game streaks. Feels like it was going to be a freemium game and they didn't fix the problem areas before making it paid. Still fun, but really annoying if you want access to everything and are a completionist.
