Standard Notes is a secure and private notes app. It syncs your notes securely across all your devices, including your Android devices, Windows, iOS, Linux, and Web.

Private means your notes are end-to-end encrypted, so only you can read your notes. Even we can't read the contents of your notes.

Simple means it does one job and does it well. Standard Notes is a safe and lasting place for your life's work. Our focus is making it easy to write notes wherever you are and syncing them with encryption to all your devices.

Standard Notes is completely open-source, which means when we say your notes are encrypted with industry-leading XChaCha-20 encryption, and that only you can read your notes, you don't have to take our word for it. Our code is open to the world to audit.

We made Standard Notes simple because longevity is important to us. We want to make sure we're here, protecting your notes, for the next hundred years. You shouldn't have to find a new notes app every year.

Ratings and reviews

$90/year is too much for note taking (I could be convinced to pay half that). Free version is too limited for note taking (doesn't even have checkboxes to make a to do list). Unless you have a need for highly secure notes, I see no reason to recommend it over Simplenote or any other app. That said, the paid version looks like it has some fantastic features (spreadsheets, attaching files and photos). If you add free checkboxes or discount the price, I'll revisit the app.

This is the best app ever. I heard of them through Proton Mail. They are end-to-end encrypted and they themselves don't have any of the encryption keys. So no matter what happens they cannot provide your data to anyone else. The functionality of the entire product over the phone app, the browser, and the desktop is amazing. No matter what I change where, it instantly syncs everywhere all at once. I also setup encrypted backups where the email me all of notes encrypted in a daily email.

It's pitched as a cross-platform app, but it absolutely doesn't work on Windows 11. App goes blank and unresponsive after about 20 sec. I have a lot to import ... from my PC. Right now, it's a broken substitute for Evernote. Evernote is annoying as h*ll, but it's not trash. edit: I've wasted enough time trying limp along with data imports. "still functions"? Not for professionals. Support did reach out to me and offered me some lame work-arounds. I loathe OneNote, but maybe I'll try that next.
