About this app

The Piano Partner 2 app for Android mobile devices provides a friendly, interactive way to help you learn and enjoy music with your Roland digital piano. Songs and DigiScore Lite show the piano’s internal music collection on your device’s display, while Rhythm and Flash Card allow you to build skills with intelligent accompaniment and engaging music exercises. Piano Partner 2 also enables your mobile device to work as a remote controller for your Roland piano, offering an intuitive graphic interface for even easier operation.

Recorder and Diary functions help you progress more quickly, allowing you to evaluate performances and keep track of your daily practice activities. The Diary logs stats about playing time, which keys you played, and more, and it’s even possible to share them with your family, friends, and teachers directly from the app. To use Piano Partner 2, connect your device and a compatible Roland piano wirelessly via Bluetooth®, or wired with a USB cable. Piano Partner 2 is available for free from the App Store or Google Play.

The app is so close to working well... but doesn't. The app should automatically log in to the most recent account, as well as automatically pair to whatever device was last connected to. Plus, there's no way of sharing recordings at all, nor accessing/listening to recordings without being actively connected to the piano. It would be nice if recordings were saved locally to the phone/tablet/other device, so they can be accessed anytime, anywhere. 👍: connects to FP-30, although it's confusing

Seems less than half finished. The app should be able to keep a persistent bluetooth pairing with a keyboard. Most users will only ever connect to a single device. Having to scan for, select, then connect every time the app launches, including when the app times out or the keyboard goes to sleep is tedious. There is no connection to a music service to buy new songs for use with the app, which makes the very exciting and promising notation feature not very useful at all, which is frustrating. Songs saved in keyboard memory are not accessible through the app. The app only tracks piano use (time played) when connected, but the app very often times out, making the play tracking inaccurate. Keeping a running service on the keyboard itself that can be fetched by the app would be much preferred. The recording interface doesn't have a bulk delete for tracks, so for every halfway decent track you might record, there will be several 7 second long botch-tracks you'll need to delete one by one. If you delete too many tracks too fast, the deletion doesn't take and many of the files will reappear in the track list. There seems to be no way to transfer recorded midi data from the app to any other place, making even that seemingly fantastic feature useful for performance analysis, but little else. Transfer the midi data, or a wav conversion? Nope. It's just very frustrating. Roland has given us a glimpse of these great things, but then made most of them largely unusable.

It allowed me to connect to my Roland F-140 digital piano. However, I can only listen to my recordings when the app is connected via Bluetooth to the piano. I want to be able to listen later without the piano turned on. I like the student drills in the app. Another issue is that no matter what instrument tone I record a song in, it only plays back as the default piano tone. I'm glad to have it, but it's weak and unintuitive in some parts. Thanks.
