The app works but it's a usability nightmare. Planning a trip is slow when searching for stations, no recent search history, and the app always returns to the home screen when you switch away. As others mentioned, any money left on a card when you are done with it is basically forfeit so don't load the card with anything more than you need.

Absolutely horrendous service!!! I recharged $10 via the Opal app, says $10 pending tap on. I waited about an hour, then arrive at Central Station (the instruction says wait only 15 mins for train), try to tap on, says balance too low. I've done this many times before always worked except this time. Called Opal Card service, the caller keep insisting the $10 can only be effective when I tapped "off", and she insists I need to recharge another $20 at a physical machine, which is obviously false!

changing email address on the account doesn't work. can't close the account either. the app doesn't remember trip details when changing tabs. super annoying. but there's no other option. "live" updates are a straight up lie too. Trams show as "on time" yet don't arrive at all, leading to missed connecting trains.
