The Steam Chat app includes many key features of the desktop Steam client chat, including:
Friends List – See who’s in game or online at a glance. You'll see your custom categories and favorites bar just like you can on your PC.
Rich Chat – Your chats get even better with higher fidelity links, videos, tweets, GIFs, Giphy, Steam emoticons, and more.
Invite Links – Add new friends on Steam with a link. Generate an invite link you can text or email.
Customizable Notifications – Mobile notifications mean you'll never miss a message or game invite. You can customize your notifications per friend, group chat, and chat channel.
Group Chats - Get everyone on the same page. Groups make it easier to do things like stay in touch with your communities and organize game night with your best friends.

Ratings and reviews

Unfortunately very buggy and prone to crashing on every mobile device I have owned. The only solution to the constant crashing I have found is to go into Settings > Interface and tick the slider that says "don't embed images and other media in-line". Hopefully that tip helps others restore some basic functionality to the app as it has for me. Hoping Steam's usual rigor in ensuring customer satisfaction is applied to solving this very glaring issue.

Still a complete buggy mess that it was when it released but it's even worse now. For starters, their very own sticker system doesn't work - stickers get stuck on the first frame. GIF's don't animate like they use to years ago. Videos won't play sound and are super zoomed in, often crashes when you scroll past them. Can only upload your last 5 images from camera and screenshots, any others give an error. Crashes and much more. How is it that Valve are incapable of making a functional chat app?

It's the most broken app I've ever used. It freezes up every message or 2 and becomes completely unresponsive. Also stops working if you minimize the app and bring back up. or turn your phone screen off and back on. the old all in one app worked fine, Steam has not fixed this issue in over a year. im assuming they are trying to kll the chat function on phones.
