HerdCard keeps a record for every animal in a small beef herd, on one card you can read at arm's length. It works offline, because a pasture rarely has a signal.

WHAT IT DOES

Cattle records
- Tag number in large type, with a photo, breed, sex, age, dam and sire
- The last weight, the gain since the weigh-in before it, and the next expected calving, on the card
- Groups for pastures, lots and pens

Calving calendar
- An estimated calving window from a bull turn-in and turn-out date, or an estimated date from an insemination date
- Set the gestation length used for the estimate. The default is 283 days
- Calving ease, birth weight and the outcome on the dam's own record
- A month calendar with the windows painted across it

Treatment records and withdrawal dates
- Product, lot or serial number, dose, route, injection site, reason and who gave it
- Enter meat and milk withdrawal separately, with milk also accepted in hours
- The end date sits in red on the card until it passes
- A reminder on the withdrawal end date you entered
- A booster reminder on the interval you enter

Weights
- A chute session that takes a tag, a weight, and moves to the next animal
- Average daily gain between the last two weigh-ins
- An adjusted 205 day weaning weight

The sale
- Sale, death or cull, with buyer, weight and price
- In the full version, recording a direct-to-slaughter sale inside the meat withdrawal you entered requires a written reason
- A cost per head over any date range, from the expenses you record

Reports
- Herd, calving, treatment, weight and sales reports as a PDF
- CSV export
- One backup file that holds every record and every photograph, and restores on another phone

WHO IT IS FOR

Cow-calf operations of 5 to 100 head. Smallholders, part-time ranchers, and anyone who keeps the herd record in a pocket notebook and a spreadsheet at tax time.

HOW IT IS SET UP

The standard tier holds 30 active animals. Recording a sale, a death or a cull frees a slot. Records you have already made stay readable and editable whatever tier you are on: the limit is on adding another animal, and nothing is ever hidden or deleted. Reports, CSV export and the sale check are part of the full version, as a subscription or a one time purchase.

WHAT IT DOES NOT DO

HerdCard never supplies a withdrawal period. Labels change and they differ by country, so you type what the label in your hand says, and the app does the arithmetic and the reminding. It is a record, not veterinary advice, and it does not decide whether an animal is fit to sell.

Fixes a crash when adding a treatment, breeding, calving or expense to an animal that already had one recorded. The first record of each kind always worked, so this only showed up once your herd had some history.
