"Mum, I've lost my phone - I'm in trouble, send money now."
That call is the most common way families lose money to fraud. In Germany it's the Enkeltrick, in Poland metoda na wnuczka, in the UK the Hi Mum scam. The caller controls everything you can hear: the number on your screen, the voice, the story, the urgency.
Wcall doesn't try to hear the lie. It opens a second channel to the number YOU have saved for that person.
HOW IT WORKS
1. Add the people closest to you to your Close Circle.
2. When a call like that comes in, send them a check - a code by SMS they read back to you, or a push notification they confirm with one tap.
3. Confirmed, and you carry on. No confirmation, and you hang up.
"BUT THEY SAID THEY LOST THEIR PHONE"
That is exactly the case Wcall is built for. If nobody can answer on the number you have saved, you have your answer - whoever is calling has not proven anything, and the money can wait. Hang up, call your daughter yourself, or ask them to come to you in person.
NOT ANOTHER DATABASE OF SCAM NUMBERS
Apps with blocklists only know numbers someone has already reported. The call that takes your mother's money comes from a number nobody has reported yet - or from her daughter's real number, spoofed. Wcall doesn't check a list. It checks whether the person can answer on the phone you have saved for them.
Nothing done over a phone call can prove who someone is. But only the real Anna can answer on Anna's phone.
FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY
Set it up for a parent or grandparent in a few minutes. The app comes with a printable card for the fridge - one rule, large type, for the moment when there is no time to think.
PRIVACY
Your address book is never uploaded. Only the people you deliberately add to your Close Circle are saved to your account, so that a check can reach them, and their phone data is encrypted before it is stored. Nothing else from your contacts leaves the phone.
