I've been playing guitar my whole life, but was always chronically stuck at the intermediate level. I decided to get serious about learning and applying theory, and quickly realized I needed to commit the fretboard to memory, at least enough to play along with tracks. I downloaded all the similar apps I could find, and this one emerged as my favorite. It's not perfect. I think the time-gated phase checks are pointless and buggy. Still, it does a good job of presenting the information I need.

Hi David! Thanks for the 5 stars and honest feedback, glad it became your favorite! Quick ask: what felt buggy? Even one example helps a lot (in-app Feedback works great). On time-gated checks: the spacing helps knowledge stick long-term. I know it feels like friction though! Happy practicing! David

FretGenius is the best fretboard trainer app I found or at least the one most in line with what I was looking for. It offers a gamified experience that is addicting and actually makes me practice every day. One thing I would really like is being able to see the entire "skill tree" - the stages I've conquered and those I'm yet to master (Duolingo let's you see this). I guess I like knowing where I stand :) But awesome work!

Thank you very much Marko! I agree with you about the skill tree, seeing how far you've come and what's next is motivating. I'll definitely work on that. Thanks again for taking the time to write a review and happy practicing!

Solid app. The phase advance time-out feature is annoying, and there should be a way to turn it off and/or reduce the time. I want to use the app but I dont need to wait 8 hours between learning the E string and A string.
