• Play Along (with guitar): Jam to backing tracks with beat-aligned note prompts for real guitar practice
• Phase Check (scored): Prove your fretboard note recall in ~1.5 minutes and advance your phase

I've been playing guitar my whole life, but was always chronically stuck at the intermediate level. I decided to get serious about learning and applying theory, and quickly realized I needed to commit the fretboard to memory, at least enough to play along with tracks. I downloaded all the similar apps I could find, and this one emerged as my favorite. It's not perfect. I think the time-gated phase checks are pointless and buggy. Still, it does a good job of presenting the information I need.

Hi David! Thanks for the 5 stars and honest feedback, glad it became your favorite! Quick ask: what felt buggy? Even one example helps a lot (in-app Feedback works great). On time-gated checks: the spacing helps knowledge stick long-term. I know it feels like friction though! Happy practicing! David

FretGenius is the best fretboard trainer app I found or at least the one most in line with what I was looking for. It offers a gamified experience that is addicting and actually makes me practice every day. One thing I would really like is being able to see the entire "skill tree" - the stages I've conquered and those I'm yet to master (Duolingo let's you see this). I guess I like knowing where I stand :) But awesome work!

Thank you very much Marko! I agree with you about the skill tree, seeing how far you've come and what's next is motivating. I'll definitely work on that. Thanks again for taking the time to write a review and happy practicing!

I've got this app on my ipad and phone and both versions are excellent. It's a fantastic tool for learning the notes on a guitar neck - and it really works. Incredibly it's free, too! Thanks FretGenius šŸŽøšŸ‘

It is very kind of you to leave a review here as well, Patrick, thank you very much! Really means a lot. As promised, I'm working on the microphone trainer feature, and it might be ready as soon as next week (depends on the app stores review process)

What’s new

- Mic Trainer now shows a string diagram so you can see the target string to play
- String/fret hints are now optional, with a toggle in the pre-start screen and in Note Path preferences
- String-guided prompts now target frets 0 through 11 for clearer note targets
