About this app

Keep your hosts, servers, and network devices monitored 24/7—directly from your pocket.

HostGenie is a lightweight, local-first network monitoring agent and diagnostic toolkit designed for system administrators, homelab hobbyists, DevOps, and developers who need reliable server uptime checks without subscription fees or data harvesting.

Whether you are monitoring a Raspberry Pi, home server, database, public web API, or enterprise router switches, HostGenie runs scheduled, battery-optimized background diagnostics and alerts you instantly the moment a node goes down.

KEY UPTIME & CONNECTION PROTOCOLS

Ping (ICMP) Checks: Measure round-trip time latency and track availability of local servers, gateways, and remote hosts with standard ICMP Echo requests. Customize packet sizes and ping bursts.

TCP Socket Connect: Test the responsiveness of critical server ports (such as SSH, FTP, SMTP, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or custom ports) to verify that network daemons are accepting sockets.

HTTP/HTTPS Download: Validate the health of websites and REST APIs by downloading endpoints. Inspect response headers, verify response latency, and monitor return statuses.

SNMP Telemetry: Query SNMP-compatible routers, switches, printers, or NAS devices. Supports SNMP v1, v2c, and high-security SNMP v3 (supporting MD5, SHA, DES, AES encryption). Retrieve and decrypt community strings locally.

ADVANCED VERIFICATION & ASSERTIONS

Go beyond simple ping handshakes with deep verification triggers:

Allowed Status Codes: Define custom acceptable HTTP response ranges (e.g. 200, 301, 302, 401).

SSL Verification Controls: Ignore SSL/TLS handshake errors to easily monitor local intranets or servers with self-signed SSL certificates.

Regex Body Assertions: Match or exclude text pattern assertions in the response body to catch server exceptions or verify content availability.

Jsoup Web Crawler: Automatically crawl hyperlinks in downloaded HTML pages up to a depth of 3 hops to quickly check for broken links.

JavaScript Validation Engine: Write custom sandbox scripts to programmatically parse response payloads and output specific status reports.

SMART BACKGROUND SCHEDULER & QUIET HOURS

100% Local Operations: No account creation, cloud dependencies, or tracking. Your API keys, credentials, and connection logs stay encrypted in your local database.

Battery-Optimized Scheduling: Respects Android's Doze mode. HostGenie leverages system scheduler channels to run queries efficiently, with optional high-precision mode to bypass background battery saving if critical.

Quiet Hours & Alert Mutes: Define scheduled suspension intervals (such as weekends or night hours) to pause checks and keep your notification drawer quiet.

Failures Isolation Tag: Instantly identify and filter broken nodes using the smart error tag chip on the home screen.

Retries & Backoff: Protect against false positives during quick network handshakes. Set retry counts, interval delays, and exponential backoffs (doubling the wait on consecutive failures).
