About this app

Two things sit at the centre of kabbalistic study: a diagram and a number. Sefer gives you both — the Tree of Life you can walk through with your thumb, and a gematria calculator that weighs any word you can type.

THE TREE OF LIFE
The full diagram, drawn to scale and fully interactive. Ten sephirot arranged on three pillars, joined by twenty-two paths. Tap any sphere and you get its Hebrew name, its title, which pillar it stands on, the planet or sphere assigned to it, its keywords, and what it actually means in the system. Tap any path and you get the letter cut into it, the two sephirot it joins, and where it leads.

THE TWENTY-TWO PATHS
Each path carries one Hebrew letter, and the letters divide as the Sefer Yetzirah divides them: three mothers, seven doubles, twelve simples. Every path shows its astrological attribution and its Major Arcana card, because the same twenty-two keys run through the Tree and through the tarot. The correspondences follow the nineteenth-century Golden Dawn arrangement, and the app says so rather than passing a modern scheme off as ancient.

GEMATRIA, FOUR WAYS
Type or paste a Hebrew word and see it under every method at once:
• Standard - Mispar Hechrachi, the familiar values, Aleph 1 to Tav 400
• Ordinal - Mispar Siduri, position in the alphabet
• Reduced - Mispar Katan, everything brought down to a single digit
• Final forms - Mispar Gadol, where the five sofit letters carry 500 to 900
Greek words are calculated too, by isopsephy, on the same screen.

NO HEBREW KEYBOARD NEEDED
An on-screen Hebrew and Greek keypad is built in, with the five final forms marked. Vowel points, spaces and punctuation are ignored, so pasted text just works. There is also a Latin helper: type "shalom" and it suggests שלום — and it tells you plainly that this is a guess, not a conversion, because Hebrew writes consonants and one Latin letter can stand for two Hebrew ones.

WORDS THAT WEIGH THE SAME
Every result is checked against a reference list of notable words, so you see immediately what shares your number. YHVH is 26. Echad, "one", is 13 — and so is Ahavah, "love", which is the observation the whole practice was built on.
