EdelVerify verifies your age to an online shop—without the shop knowing who you are.
HOW IT WORKS
When paying, the shop displays a QR code. You scan it with this app, hold your passport or residence permit against the back of your phone, and the shop receives a single answer: "Over 18: yes" or "no."
WHAT THE SHOP DOESN'T KNOW
No name. No date of birth. No ID number. No address.
Your date of birth never leaves your phone. The app reads the chip, performs the calculations on the device, and transmits only the result.
WHICH DOCUMENTS WORK
Swiss passports, foreign passports, and residence permits contain the necessary chip. It is read according to the international standard ICAO 9303—the same standard used by the machines at the border.
The Swiss identity card does not yet have a chip; Biometric ID verification is expected by the end of 2026.
WHY YOU NEED IT
Since October 1, 2024, tobacco, nicotine, and e-cigarette products may no longer be sold to minors under 18 in Switzerland, including online. More and more shops are therefore using reliable age verification instead of a simple checkbox.
NO ACCOUNT REQUIRED
You don't need to register. There's no login or setup required. Each verification is subsequently recorded under "History"—including the time and result, without any personal information.
