Is E471 halal?
E471 (mono- and diglycerides of fatty acids) is a common emulsifier whose raw material can be either plant oil or animal fat. When the source is vegetable it is generally considered permissible; when it comes from pork fat it is not. The label rarely tells you which one you have, so scan the product's barcode and the app will show what is known about the additive's origin and rate the product accordingly.
