About this app

AEtheric ChromaGrid turns colour and brightness into playable sound. Start with the built-in animated demo, use the camera after an explicit tap, or choose an image or video from your device. ChromaGrid processes every frame on-device.

THREE WAYS TO PLAY

• Grid Sequencer scans cells over time for rhythmic melodies and chords.
• Whole Image Note reduces the current frame to one responsive note.
• Drawn Regions lets you place up to eight voices over areas you choose.

MUSICAL MAPPING

Map ROYGBIV colours to scale degrees, distribute hue across the selected scale, or use continuous microtonal pitch with MPE. Brightness controls note strength, while saturation and brightness thresholds help you focus the response. Choose a root, scale or mode, BPM, grid size, voice count, waveform, and output gain. Included scales range from pentatonic and major/minor to chromatic and church modes.

SOUND AND MIDI

Play the built-in synthesizer without extra equipment. If your device exposes Android MIDI endpoints, you can explicitly select one for MIDI or lower-zone MPE output. MIDI stays off until you select an endpoint.

PRIVATE BY DESIGN

ChromaGrid has no Internet permission, accounts, analytics, ads, or in-app purchases. Camera access is optional and user-triggered. Camera frames and user-selected images or videos stay on the device and are not uploaded. The app does not request microphone access or record audio.
